creative alternatives for your wedding day exit

“I now pronounce you husband & wife, you may kiss the bride!”

Amidst the cheers and smiles, laughter and tears, you lock arms with your now spouse and make your way down the aisle. After this point many couples choose to do a grand exit; once all the guests have managed to leave their seats and found their way outside. The old tradition of throwing rice, done for the purpose of wishing couples a more symbolic form of good luck, has become modernized. Often you will find guests throwing bird seed or blowing bubbles while seeing the couple off. However, I’ve seen too many a bride pummeled with bird seed by the young guests who find it entertaining. And while it makes for an entertaining photo op, the birdseed gets lodged in a bride’s heavily, hair-sprayed-do and it usually gets all down the dress. So with that in mind I encourage my brides to take a different route, and support their ideas for alternatives that might be unique or better fit their style.

So bride’s when you are thinking about your grand exit, get creative! One of my all-time favorite exits was Travis & Ashley who choose to use confetti poppers.

A lot of churches or venues do ban anything that will create a mess. A reason why bubbles have become so popular. In Amy & Michael’s grand entrance they conquered this problem by using a combination of bubbles & pop-out streamers(from Michaels). The streamers where awesome as they helped spice up the moment, but once they where popped they remained attached; guests could easily roll up the streamers and through them away. A no-mess, yet fun solution!

There are all sorts of options out there if you just take a moment to think outside of the traditional box. You could use sparklers, flowers, fake snow (if it’s a winter wedding), or just have a unique get-away that enhances the event, the sky is the limit. Check out the Knot’s Wedding Channel‘s article for more ideas, and enjoy your planning!
